It was quite a journey for me to have my ears re-pierced. A friend had done them for me previously, but they ended up uneven. Today, I finally mustered the courage to go, and the piercer I encountered was truly exceptional. They made a genuine effort to understand my preferences. However, another staff member, presumably a superior, intervened. This individual expressed discomfort with the spacing I desired between my three lobe piercings. They went as far as to assert that they couldn't permit me to leave with the piercings as I wanted. Instead, they marked where the piercer could pierce my ears, despite one side already having the first and third piercings, thus determining the spacing. Despite my efforts to cooperate, the staff member was impolite, instructing me not to touch my ears, even though I was merely trying to comprehend their suggestions. Moreover, they proceeded to handle my ears with bare, unsanitized hands. Ultimately, I felt coerced and, as a result, ended up with the second piercings placed too close together once again. I have since removed them and plan to revisit the idea in a few months at a different establishment. The staff member dismissed my concerns about spacing and instructed the piercer not to bother ensuring symmetry on both sides, claiming that no one would notice any irregularities since they wouldn't be visible. The lack of concern for health and safety was evident; it was simply a matter of the staff member disapproving of my desired spacing. I wish I had considered walking away, but by that point, I was so emotionally drained and felt bullied that I acquiesced when I shouldn't have. By the end of the ordeal, I was so disheartened that if the piercer had suggested placing the third piercing where I didn't want it, I likely would have agreed. The staff member's behaviour left me feeling so disempowered that it didn't even occur to me to simply walk away or ask them to stop interfering with my ears. If those thoughts had crossed my mind, I would have left. Their bullying tactics proved effective, unfortunately.
