During my initial visit to this spa in early December for a "Classic Pedicure," the cost of Shellac nail polish removal and reapplication was included in the overall price (£50.00). On my return for a second appointment for the same treatment, I opted not to have polish reapplied, yet I was unexpectedly charged extra for the removal at the start of the session. Having had my nails done in various locations worldwide, I have never encountered a situation where polish removal was an additional cost during a pedicure. Just had my nails done here today (acrylic and polish) and service was great. Called and got an appointment for an hour later. Olivia did my nails and although clearly getting busier with more people waiting she conscientiously made sure my nails were as I had asked for and checked evenness throughout; also kind and thoughtful customer service. The biab was not properly filed down, resulting in uneven product application on the nails. The nail polish was applied unevenly, giving a patchy appearance. Quite disheartened after spending close to £40. I never leave bad reviews, but my salon visit was so disappointing that I felt compelled to write one. The service from the salon manager was subpar from the start. I requested a redo of a colour I had done there two weeks ago. During my previous appointment, the manager chose a powder colour for my chrome nails, so I didn't know the exact name of the glitter colour. When I asked for help this time, I was met with a sigh and scolded for not noting down the colour previously. It's not uncommon to forget the exact shade. This is not how a customer paying above average for a shellac manicure at a supposedly high-quality salon should be treated. The experience worsened when I was passed to a male nail technician who did a poor job. Chrome nails need a smooth base for a flawless finish. He left a hole in the base coat of one nail, tried to cover it with top coat, and then redid it after my request. However, he seemed agitated throughout, tapping his feet and nail file. After the appointment, I noticed inconsistencies in the chrome application and bumps in the base coat on several nails. The manager agreed to redo some nails, but it took another 20 minutes. While I appreciated the discount for the next appointment, it didn't make up for the overall poor service and the 2.5 hours it took for one manicure. Additionally, my nails chipped within a week, which is unacceptable. My appointment with Tolomani was absolutely spot on. I wouldn't dream of going elsewhere as I'm quite particular about my hair. I showed him what I had in mind and he went above and beyond, leaving me with a fantastic haircut that was styled beautifully. My recent visit to the nail salon, a place where I've always had top-notch manicures, unfortunately left me feeling conflicted and led me to give it a 2-star rating. This particular visit deviated significantly from my previously positive experiences.
The source of my dissatisfaction stems from the unorthodox approach they took to my pre-scheduled manicure and pedicure session. While I understand that salons employ different methods, the decision to carry out both treatments simultaneously, within the confines of the pedicure chair, was puzzling and uncomfortable. I found myself twisted in an awkward position for almost an hour, contorting my upper body to accommodate the technician working on my manicure while my pedicure was being done. This setup was a far cry from the relaxation and luxury that a visit to a nail salon is meant to offer.
Further contributing to my discontent was the relatively low number of clients in the salon and my deliberate scheduling of separate time slots for each treatment. This only heightened my confusion about the chosen arrangement. Given the available space, there was plenty of room to transition to a manicure table once the pedicure was completed. The absence of this transition left me feeling not just physically uncomfortable but also somewhat marginalized compared to other customers who experienced a smoother and more comfortable transition between treatments.
The essence of a nail salon visit lies in both comfort and indulgence, aspects that my recent experience failed to adequately provide, despite the premium cost.
