After a disappointing experience at my usual salon, which had suffered a decline in skilled hairdressers, I decided to give Amazon Hair Salon a try based on positive reviews and its convenient location. My first visit with Marianne, a professional colourist, was exceptional. She flawlessly matched my existing highlights, achieving a natural look that I had been missing elsewhere.
However, my recent appointment on 02/01/2024 with a different stylist whose name I cannot recall was a stark contrast. Despite requesting the same natural blonde full head highlights, I faced resistance when I mentioned using two shades. The stylist insisted that 'to create highlights, you must use bleach to make the hair white'. I tried to explain that previously I had two different shades of blonde to achieve a natural-looking result, and I even showed a picture, but my hairstylist seemed perplexed. She went outside the salon to consult a senior colleague but returned with the same advice, leaving me feeling unheard.
Unfortunately, the outcome was far from what I had envisioned. The highlights were not only uneven but also resulted in distinct colour patches throughout my hair. Additionally, some solution was applied to strands outside the foils, leading to a chaotic mix of colours. There was a clear lack of consideration for the colour technique and its suitability to my specific hair type and existing style.
The haircut felt rushed, more like a quick trim than the comprehensive service I had previously received. I was informed about a 'time limit'—a restriction I had never encountered during previous appointments for full or half-head highlights.
Ultimately, the £200 I paid felt like a poor investment. Despite the stylist's pleasant manner, the lack of expertise in colour matching was evident, and the highlights were far from seamless. It was disappointing to see senior staff engaging in non-essential activities like blow-drying the receptionist's hair and enjoying pizza while my concerns about colour consistency were disregarded.
In conclusion, my experience at Amazon Hair Salon was far from satisfactory. The subpar results left me feeling dissatisfied and out of pocket, unable to confidently wear my hair up due to the patchy and uneven colouring. I hope the salon takes steps to address these issues and maintain the standards they claim to uphold. I assumed that Marianne represented the standard at Amazon, but it appears to vary depending on the hairdresser. I look in the mirror every day and dislike my hair.
